Instant Replay

Patience

"Life is just a game...we're all just the same..."

Prince - Controversy

The Phillies and the Yankees are in the midst of the World Series, and because of my childhood in Philadelphia, and New York, I am more neutral than biased.

RESPECT

When Alex Rodriguez signed with the New York Yankees, I'm sure he had no idea it would play out like this. Switching from his trusty number 3, to 13 seemed to get him to an ominous start...however after many ups and downs, he is now playing for all the marbles, in a post season to remember.

Prior to this morning, there had only been one World Series game in the 11th month...in which Derek Jeter added the name Mr. November with a home run that cleared the outfield wall after midnight. Nevertheless, 8-years later the results are the same, as the Yankees defeated an opponent in a World Series game.

The Phillies/Yankees matchup on Halloween started with a Philadelphia 3-0 advantage for the first 3 innings, but it was in the 4th, that Cole Hamels began to falter using a hanging cure ball numerous times that doomed a chance at victory. Rodriguez got his first hit of the series, and naturally it was the controversial kind, as the umpires needed instant replay to call a ball that caromed off a TV camera...a 2-run home run.

Andy Pettitte, Nick Swisher, Johnny Damon, and Hideki Matsui stepped up for New York offensively with timely hits, and aggressive base running. Jayson Werth went yard twice off Pettitte to keep Philadelphia within striking distance, but in the end it was the Yankees 8-5 over the Fightin' Phils.

After the game I had an opportunity to interview ARod, at which many of my family and friends were able to witness on live TV...this is my first World Series, and I'm loving every minute of it.

"Many people tell me this style is terrific..."

KRS ONE - South Bronx

Tonight the New York Yankees battled against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Game 6 of the ALCS.

Champions

The night began with former Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams throwing out the first pitch, and if that wasn't a sign of familiar times, then once Andy Pettitte took the mound the clock seemed to rewind to the youthful team of '96.

Yankee manager Joe Girardi was a catcher then, and Jeter, Posada, and Mariano Rivera all were in the infancy stages of their career.

All these years later they are headed back to where it all began, as they will square off against the Fightin' Phils on Wednesday...having defeated the Angels 5-2. This is the 40th AL Pennant in the Bronx, and the second time the Bombers have faced the Phillies in the World Series, with the first meeting in 1950.

Both teams are evenly matched, from high powered offensive lineups, to each club boasting a former Cleveland Indians pitcher as their ace. The real season begins in a few days, and while I have some serious ties to both clubs, I know that only one can win.

Mos Def - Mathematics

Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez starred for the Seattle Mariners in what seems like a lifetime ago...however last night they rekindled some of their magic as opponents in the new Yankee Stadium.

Hall of Fame

I began watching baseball because of Junior, so when he hit career home run number 621 in the 6th inning off Andy Pettitte...I cheered. The Yankees won 4-2, for their 7th consecutive win, as this game turned out to be one for the history books.

Griffey and A-Rod entered the game with at least 550 home runs each as they both extended their totals by connecting on home runs. The last time a feat like this happened, it was Hank Aaron and Willie Mays on May 8, 1971.

Baseball entails thinking in various situations, but at the end of the day it's a numbers game, and its because of moments like this, that I revel in it.
